Tight Tolerances

Our client is a high volume manufacturer of precision components used in the semiconductor industry. While their patented technology offers superior performance and design flexibility over competing solutions, it is their expertise in automated, controlled processes that really helps them stand apart.

The Challenge

The client was experiencing difficulty with its thermoformed trays being unable to perform consistently in its robotic pick-and-place packaging process. The placement of the extremely sensitive parts required a cavity tolerance of .005”, an incredibly tight tolerance, which even VisiPak engineers initially questioned as being possible.

The Solution

After reviewing the project closely, the VisiPak engineering team came up with a special tooling design that met the client’s need.

The Result

The newly designed tool has been able to consistently make parts within the 0.005″ tolerance and the client now produces hundreds of thousands of parts per year without a single quality issue related to the cavity tolerance.
