Stackable Trays

One of the most common design challenges we are presented with at VisiPak is trying to design one tray with multiple functions. Whether it is a tray that also functions as a lid or a tray that can be stacked once it is filled with product, our design team is up for the challenge.

The Tray-Lid Combo

For this macaron tray, our team developed one thermoformed tray with 12 “cookie-cavities” and the following characteristics.

One tray that ships nested to minimize freight costs and minimize risks of damage to the trays during shipment
Tray is design with male/female indentations so when one tray is rotated and placed on top of the other tray, it transforms into a secure-fitting lid.

The Rotate-to-Stack Feature

Another solution our engineers have developed is the “Rotate-to-Stack” functionality. These trays ship nested, but when the trays are filled with parts, they can be stacked by rotating them. You can note in the image below how the triangular elements fit into formed cavities on the bottom of the tray for a secure fit that protects the trays components.
