Numbered Shipping Thermoformed Tray

Diamonds are considered the planet’s hardest material with remarkably-diverse properties. The high tensile strength, chemical inertness, broad optical transmission, and extremely-high thermal conductivity attribute diamond’s usage for industrial purposes. Synthetic diamonds are engineered for a wide range of applications: cutting tools, wire drawing and dressing applications, optics, infra-red, thermal management, electrochemistry, radiation detection, and quantum optics.

The Challenge

Similar to storage and assembly that most industries deal with, this manufacturer of lab-grown diamonds are faced with the same concerns. To transport these small elements a high level of identification and segregation is required. To gain full efficiencies in production the container would need to include over 100 individual spaces, each holding one diamond and each space assigned a number. When it comes to designing and manufacturing packaging trays VisiPak will meet the challenge from any industry.

The Solution

Recognizing the need to facilitate quality control, VisiPak designed the container, a thermoformed tray and lid. Because each diamond material, or wafer required segregation, this tray was designed with over 100 cavities. The crucial key to these cavities was specific identification, so unique numbers were embossed in the bottom. The design expertise of the VisiPak engineering team is fully aware of effects of embossing on the thermoforming materials. When embossed, materials tend to stretch, weakening the overall structure. The engineer’s selection of the material, along with collaboration with the production team running the equipment producing the trays, skillfully produced this embossed thermoformed tray that retained the rigid structure properties required.

The Result

The extreme details involved in creating this thermoformed tray container along with the ability to retain the strength needed was met with great success for the customer. This project demonstrates the many skills that VisiPak combines with knowledge to produce multi-featured products for our customers.
